2017 Sept 15th-17th NZ Secondary Schools Champs

NZ SECONDARY SCHOOLS CHAMPS REPORT (Submitted by Coach Olly Gibb)

Over the weekend of the 15th to 17th of September, we had three Mount Wellington swimmers attend the NZ Secondary School Championships in Te Rapa, Hamilton.

As Waterpolo sports director for St Cuthberts College I went down as the coach to support the team and of course our other two Mt Welly members!

Jack Kelly raced three events gaining for his school Howick College. Although no pb’s, he had a strong race in the 200 fly finishing 10th Nationally but was slightly over his best time.

Grace Li representing St Cuthberts College had a strong meet, gaining a 3 second PB and 7th in age group in her 400m free the last event of the day , which was an impressive effort after competing in 4 prior events. She also had a top ten placing in the 200 free with 10th overall Nationally.

Natasha Reynolds representing Pakuranga College had a fantastic meet gaining three PB’s in the 50m free, 100m back  and 50m fly out of 6 races but unable to crack the top 10.

It was great to see Mount Wellington swimmers doing so well flying the flag for their schools. I hope to see more from our club enter the event to represent their schools.
