Auckland Junior Championships, 7-9 December Meet Report
11 Mount Wellington swimmers entered the Junior Championships, 3 from the senior squad, 7 from the development squad and 1 from the junior squad.
All our swimmers acquitted themselves well and our club can rightly be proud of them.Caleb Yin was outstanding, swimming 8 races and gaining a medal and a PB in every race.
Courtney Matthews also medalled in her 3 races but missed a PB in her first event.
Those to also achieve a 100% PB record were: Jazmin Carter, Paikea Cecil, Charles Deng (although this doesn’t show as his entry times were based on short course times), Sahara Logo-Olo, Ryan Slater and Nolan Zou.Charles Deng’s very fast 100 Backstroke swim took him 5 seconds under the L2 qualifying time.
Well done Charles.Paikea and Jazmin had a great race in heat 10 of the 100 backstroke with Paikea pipping Jazmin by exactly 1 second with a strong 2nd 50m. This leaves them 2.47 and 3.47 sec off level 1 respectively.
Linda Liang also swam an excellent 100 backstroke to score a big 18 second PB and only missed a 100% PB record being 0.05 of a second over her best in the 100 fly.
Bella Clarke also missed a 100% record by the smallest of margins (0.17 sec) in her first race but came back strongly in the 100 free to pick up a 1.23 second PB.
Although he was slightly over his best times Elijah Yin swam well and will no doubt be at his best again next time out.
Our Team Manager for the entire meet was Jade Lam and she worked tirelessly to ensure all our swimmers were at their starts on time and also kept a sharp eye on the swimmers eating habits. Thank you Jade.
